In 2008, the Stena Rederi’s IT manager Pär Persson started a change process to improve quality in the IT department. Since then, Stena’s IT department has gone from being a cost center to becoming a true managed profit center. To help improve quality and develop their IT operations, Stena Rederi selected the ERP for IT® solution from Efecte.
"We started by adopting internally a new way of process-oriented thinking. That led us to look for a centralized solution to support all the IT service processes.” We chose the Efecte solution as it works well with the ITIL best practices, on which our new processes are based. We started with building a service catalogue and a Configuration Management Database (CMDB)”, Pär Persson describes.
Effective communication between IT and finance department
"The key to success was understanding the IT department’s financial structure. With Efecte solution, we were able to create a model for dividing the IT costs fairly and according to the general market pricing. We rebuilt our IT organization and made it a profit center with clearly defined and priced IT services. Thanks to our new configuration management database, we have also become less ‘person’ dependent ", says Pär Persson.
For the past year, Stena Rederi’s IT department has been using this new approach and the results have been more than positive. "Now I can show our internal customers exactly what they buy from our IT department. We can price our services and bill them based on their actual usage. This has contributed to increased quality in the IT department", concludes Pär Persson.
