 Efecte’s ERP for IT solution for the Intermunicipal Hospital District of Southwest Finland
- Solution facilitates more efficient management of a multiform operating environment

The IT management project of the Intermunicipal Hospital District of Southwest Finland was based on an extensive migration to the electronic storage of patient data. “The introduction of new patient data systems also required the updating of certain IT management solutions in order to ensure high service quality and availability in all circumstances”, comments Yrjö Koivusalo, head of IT management at the Intermunicipal Hospital District of Southwest Finland.
“Since, in our District, patient safety is the most important factor, even in IT management, our IT systems must ensure undisturbed service provision. We needed a reliable solution to facilitate the control and quality management of both outsourced services and those produced in-house,” continues Mr. Koivusalo.
The Intermunicipal Hospital District of Southwest Finland selected Efecte’s ERP for IT solution as the ERP system of its IT service center. Efecte’s solution covers e.g. management and the automatic inventory of IT assets, a service desk solution for optimizing IT support work, a knowledge base and diverse reporting features. In addition to solution reliability, key selection criteria included overall economy and easy system scalability to meet future needs.
The solution, supplied by Efecte, has assisted the IT service unit in managing the intermunicipal hospital district’s operating environment, comprising 54 municipalities and cities as well as the University of Turku. A total of 24 health centers operate within the District, where almost 460,000 people live.
“Our IT service unit offers a very extensive service portfolio, including mainframe acquisition and operating services, patient administration software maintenance, data security services and development services. This system by Efecte provides diverse support for the provision of these services, and facilitates the further quality development of the services we produce,” says Yrjö Koivusalo.
Medbit Oy, an incorporated IT management service company established and owned by the Intermunicipal Hospital District of Southwest Finland, began operating on January 1, 2008, to provide IT management services for IT system development and operating services in support of the operations of, and co-operation between, health care and social services within the Intermunicipal Hospital District of Southwest Finland.
