City of Varkaus centralises IT asset management with Efecte

Finnish software developer, Efecte, has provided the City of Varkaus with an IT asset management solution for information and cost management.
The town’s computing centre functions in a multiple supplier environment, in which it manages third party services, such as leasing services, in addition to internal IT services. A new solution was required for the overall management of service and supplier functions, in place of systems which did not enable centralised information management and reporting.
Efecte’s ERP for IT -solution was selected as a supporting solution. Overall cost-effectiveness, easy expansibility, support for current standards and flexible usability were the key criteria.
During the solution’s implementation, Varkaus’ total of around 2,000 terminals was automatically inventoried in the system, while user, location and cost centre data was linked to this information. The computing centre now has centralised information on the entire lifecycle of its IT assets, from purchasing date to decommissioning. Efecte’s modularly expansible solution was delivered within a month on a turnkey basis.
The solution will aid Varkaus in the organisation and cost-monitoring of its information management services. Using the new system, e.g. invoicing bases for internal IT services can be defined. It also enables the development of IT purchasing practices and their dissemination throughout the organisation, from the Financial Department to Information Management. IT asset management has led to higher terminal utilisation rates and the elimination of overlaps in software and licences. Moreover, easy reporting on the IT operating environment’s status has, on the whole, made the quality monitoring and organisation of information management services more efficient.
